This year, our school community came together to celebrate Earth Day with a focus on understanding our shared responsibility to care for the planet. The celebration began with an engaging assembly where children learned about the origins of Earth Day and why caring for our environment is not just a one – day event, but something we should think about every day. The assembly encouraged pupils to reflect on their own role in protecting Earth and how small positive actions can make a meaningful difference.
Following this, each year group explored environmental themes linked to their Geography learning, making meaningful links to their units of study.
Year 3 focused on recycling. They put their learning into action by reusing plastic bottles to create planters, demonstrating how everyday items can be purposed in creative and practical ways.

Year 4 explored the issue of water wastage. Following thorough research, they designed informative leaflets to raise awareness about how we can all reduce water use in our daily lives.

Year 5 investigated water pollution in connection with their Rivers topic. They expressed understanding through a powerful collaborative collage, illustrating the effects pollution has on aquatic environments.

Year 6 examined deforestation. They created thoughtful imaginative cartoon strips featuring eco – superheroes, clearly explaining the consequences of deforestation and promoting messages environmental responsibility.

Since Earth Day, it has been a pleasure to speak with the children about their learning. They have shown growing awareness of environmental issues and have spoken enthusiastically about the activities they took part in. Many pupils have expressed pride in their work and are eager to share their knowledge with their families. It is inspiring to see so many children recognising that they can be the small change that leads to a big difference.
